Here are some pictures of the big day! Taken by my Wonerful wife Jennifer.

Installing the Bees.

I could barely sleep last night! The excitement and aprehension I was feeling was as if I was going to Disneyland. 6:00am came quickly and the bees seemed to "sleep" through the night (technically bees supposedly don't sleep). I expected to hear the buzz allnight long, but not even a peep, I mean a buzz.
I began today by of course putting some clothes on, pants, long sleeve shirt. I thought it may be innapproiate to introduce myself to the bees without any protective clothing on. After I made enough noise to wake the neighborhood my sweet wife got up and assisted me in getting the tools, bees and, camera ready for this moneumental day. Did you know that Home Depot opens at 6:00am on Saturdays? Ran over there and picked up some cinder blocks to place the Bee's lair on top. The half asleep uninterested checker could really have caredless that I was about to take on this undertaking. After a short discussion as to where to place the hive we decided to place the hive close to our bedroom window. I applied some sugar water to the bees, to make their wings alittle sticky to not allow them to take flight to quickly and just fly away. Took the queen out of the holding container, removed the cork that was blocking her entrance and applied a mini marshmallow so the drones can eat the marshmallow to begin their lives with their Queen. I have just decided to name her Queen Catherine in honor of the union of Prince William and Catherine Middleton a commoner.
Then the real fun began, I whacked the box holding the bees on the ground and started to dump the bees into the hive. Having them plop out was kind of unnerving, its not everyday that you purposly piss off some bees to get them out of something. The feeling of placing the bees in their hive was awesome! I really didn't have any preconcieved notions on how I would react; other than I didn't want to get stung. So, the joy of seeing them accept their hive and surroundings was to me a great accomplishment and feeling. Even the chickens: Thunder, Lightning, and Poke-a-dot-y were interested in the new additions to my fledgning urban backyard. Probably because they will gladly eat almost anything even the dead bees of my hive. I wonder if the eggs they will lay will have a hint of honey to them now? As I conteplate the beauty of Robinson Birds and Bees. I can only feel thankfulness to my Father in Heaven that has created everthing, and my Family for trying to understand my wanting to enjoy the Birds and Bees.

New Beeginings

Today the BEES are here! They are resting in my bedroom for the night, very exciting to hear them buzz.
